Appgate on XenServer
« on: March 16, 2009, 02:12:08 pm »
Hallo,

apart form the Vmware Image, is there also a Virtual Appliance for XenServer or does anyone have an idea how to get Appgate running on it?

Thanks and best regards,
Florian

Hi Florian!

We have not decided for what virtualisation platforms we will finally deliver AFE on.
As a minimum we are looking at  Vmware & VirtualBox.   But we are running with Xen internally
and it is not unlikely that we will provide it as well -  at some point in time.

Cheers,

Hi Anders,

is there any chance of somehow getting hold of a XenServer compatible virtual machine image before a potential release date? A first shot of converting the VMware image unfortunately was not successful. I would like to take a look at the new version on my home server.

Best regards,
Florian

Hi there,

Like floro I'm a little curious if a VM solution will be available.

There are currently three variants available:
1. A vmware server tar-file
2. An ovf-image
3. A virtualbox image

There are currently three variants available:
1. A vmware server tar-file
2. An ovf-image
3. A virtualbox image

Take the Virtualbox image.

1)Use VBoxManager clonehd .... to turn it into a raw image
2)Use qemu-img.... to turn it from raw into the type of image you want..

That what Ive just had to do this morning.. as we dont run either vmware or virtualbox..
although this works with RedHat KVM, it should work for XEN its essentially the same hypervisor.

Running quite well on an 8 Core Nehalem. :-)

Update :-

The VirtManager clone didnt work.. kernel panic's the opensolaris on boot.

So.. going to try building the VirtualBox image, then booting into helix3 and forensic imaging the hard drive to a .img file.

(Dear Appgate.. Please can we have the ISO image back rather than the virtual images LOL)

Update #2 :-

1) take the Appgate VMWare release (not the OVF)
2) Flatten the VMDK using vmware
 c:\program files\vmware\vmware server\ vmware-vdiskmanager -r appgate.vmdk -t 0 appgate-flattened.vmdk

3)use qemu to convert to an Image file
# qemu-img convert appgate-flattened.vmdk appgate.img

4) create an appgate virtual disk using virt-manager, then delete the image file

5) scp across the .img file .

6) boot your open solaris machine...

Ive now got Appgate Free edition running on a RedHat 5 KVM using 1 of 16 Nehalem cores and plenty of RAM.. I'm a happy bunny

Nice one Paul!   8)

Maybe Martin might like to add it as a download option if it meets his strategy.  :)
